[ Our story ]
From the farmto your kitchen counter.

01 — The farmer’s share
It started with a farmer’s share.
Phil Schluter has spent 30 years buying coffee at origin, working directly with the farms that grow it, standing on them and tasting their harvests. Over all that time, one thing never changed: the people who grow the coffee carry the most risk and keep the smallest share.
A cup of coffee passes through six hands before it reaches you. Most of the value is added after the beans leave the farm: in roasting, packing, branding and shelf space. Phil always believed there was a better way, a shorter chain where more of the value reaches the people who grow it.

02 — The roaster
Then design and engineering joined the conversation.
Daniel Becerra has spent his career designing and building hardware that changes how things reach people, from cooling technology to solar power for off-grid communities. When he and Phil met, they saw that the chain could only get shorter if the roasting moved into your kitchen.
So we built a roaster that anyone can use. Our coffee experts build the roast for each coffee before it ships, and save it to a tag on the pack. You tap the pack, choose light, medium or dark, and the roaster does the rest. You don’t need an app or a recipe.

03 — The chain
Six layers became three: farm, Labesera, you.
04 — The coffee
And a love of coffee holds it together.
3,000
Coffees tasted a year. One in ten makes the cut.
Our team tastes around 3,000 coffees a year and keeps only the best. Every coffee we send you is one we’d happily drink ourselves. We built Labesera for people who love that first sip, and who enjoy finding out what they like.
Shortening the chain means the value is shared differently. You pay less for better coffee, and part of every pack goes back to the farms we buy from, invested in making them stronger for the future. That isn’t charity. Coffee is getting harder to grow, and it will only have a future if the farms that grow it do too.
